The Dandelion

The Dandelion

The Dandelion makes me think of a smile.

Yellow, bright, and round is the dandelion.

A field full of dandelions looks like a soft carpet

where one gleefully runs and skips barefoot.

The warmth of the yellow sun shining down,

pouring happiness onto dandelions.

Spring is here when the dandelions bloom,

birds sing and welcome the colors of this seasons rebirth.

Lavender fits with dandelion as they are both flowers.

Lavender brings thoughts of spring. As the fragrance

of the lavender wafts through the day it tells us that

spring has arrived.

Laundry hanging out on the line to dry also

fits this picture that dandelions paint in my mind.

The vision of the warm breeze gusting through the yard

and snaping the laundry to and fro as the air is sweet

with the smells of spring. Laundry and sunshine and

birds singing, field mice and squirrels scurrying about.

White and pink and purple blooms peeking out

amongst the dried fall leaves.

The greens of grass and trees are all around.

The feel of cool and warm.

And the dandelion the color of friendship

greets us and welcomes us to spring.

Greetings!

I am so glad you are here to join me on my writing journey. I have been a writer for the past fifty years. discovering my passion for writing when I was in college. I am a professional naturalist having led hikes and taught classes in city, state and national parks in Illinois, Michigan, and Vermont. My essays have been inspired by my travels across the United Stated and Canada. I am a mother of five and grandmother of five who are also the subject of many writings. Cozy up with one of my books of essays or connect to my memoir which is written knowing there are wives and mothers who have traveled down the same bumpy road that I have navigated.

I look forward to you following me on my writing journey. Mary
